Using the power of influence for revolutionary change.
In 2010 Efrem Smith stepped away from serving as Senior Pastor of The Sanctuary Covenant Church and President of The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Sanctuary Covenant Church had grown to a Sunday morning attendance around 1,000 and had been named by Outreach Magazine as one of the 25 most innovative churches in the United States. The Sanctuary Community Development Corporation served as a partnering nonprofit focused on community engagement and youth development. Though just founded in 2003, the growth and impact of the church led to Efrem speaking at the Willow Creek Leadership Summit in 2008. This conference reaches church and marketplace leaders around the world.
Efrem left serving as Senior Pastor at The Sanctuary Covenant Church in 2010 and was elected to serve as Superintendent of the Pacific Southwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church denomination. In this role, he provided leadership to 160 churches in California, Hawaii, Arizona, and Nevada. At the start of this new leadership opportunity, he had a conversation with the Vice-President of the denomination. He shared some important advice. “Efrem, you are a Superintendent, not a Bishop. This means you have very limited authority, yet a lot of responsibility. You are going to have to use the power of influence in order to be successful.” These words over time, brought about a major shift in how Efrem understood leadership, organizational change, and life transformation.
This serves as the foundation for the launching of Influential Inc. as a Speaking, Coaching, and Consulting organization. The vision is a multiethnic movement of leaders influencing empowerment, transformation, and reconciliation in a divided, broken, and hurting world.
Efrem and his wife Donecia Norwood-Smith, utilize their 25+ years of experience in ministry, college and career preparation and coordination, community development, speaking, coaching and mentoring to equip and empower students, leaders, organizations, and families to experience sustainable transformation through rediscovering the importance of influence.
